:: Date November 22nd 2009
:: Opposition Red Lodge (H)
:: Result Won 5 v 1
:: Scorers Fulcher (2), Sanford, Simon & Jewell

First Half

The game started a little bit  scrappy, but the wind and the overnight rain did not help the players on both sides and it took everyone the first ten minutes to get a grip of the ball and start passing and moving.

In the 5th minute Levi Simon played a through ball over to Ellis Jewell and Ellis shot from 20 yards was well stopped by the Red Lodge keeper. From the kick out, Wade Reeve bought the ball under control nicely and played the ball into Chris Fulcher up front. Chris played a first time pass back to him and Wade shot from 25 yards, but the keeper stretched and judged the ball well in the wind to gather safely.

Chris Fulcher and Ellis Jewell were covering lots of ground up front against the 5, and sometimes even 6 man defensive line of Red Lodge and Levi Simon, Wade Reeve, Matthew Auker, James Sanford & Ashley Dale were commanding the midfield and playing some excellent team moves, when on 15 minutes Wade won the ball well in midfield and spotted Chris on a good forward run. Chris shot accurately into the bottom corner to give the Lions a well deserved lead. Lions 1 – 0 Red Lodge

Cameron Scarr, Tom Saunders and Liam Fox-Teece were also looking very comfortable at the back and with Vinish Bhuva in commanding form of late, the Red Lodge frontline really struggled to make any headway in the opening period.

Tom Saunders went up for a corner on 17 minutes and Levi Simon’s cross found him well. Tom headed down, the ball was half cleared, but James Sanford popped up in the six yard box to hammer the ball in the roof of the net for his first goal of the season so far.
Lions 2 – 0 Red Lodge

The Lions were rampant now and only 2 minutes later an excellent passing move involving the entire midfield 5 ended up with Ellis Jewell playing a pass to Chris Fulcher and Chris was very unlucky to see his shot sneak wide of the post with the keeper beaten.

The Lions third came on 21 minutes with an excellent chip pass from Liam Fox-Teece clearing the defence and the confident Chris Fulcher pouncing to grab his second of the game and his eighth goal in the past three outings.
Lions 3 – 0 Red Lodge

Matthew Auker made an very good one two with Levi Simon on 26 minutes and his shot sped wide, but was an excellent effort from 25 yards out – the Lions were really causing Red Lodge some serious problems now.

Just before the half time whistle Chris Fulcher accepted a good pass from James Sanford. Chris played a very good ball across the face of the goal and Levi Simon slotted the ball into the bottom corner to end an excellent half of football, especially considering the worsening conditions.
Lions 4 – 0 Red Lodge

Half Time - Lions 4 – 0 Red Lodge

Second Half

The Lions did not allow the Red Lodge players an ounce of space at the start of the second half and their battling was proving too much in midfield. Levi Simon picked the ball up just outside the box after some good battling from Jordan Charnley and Ronan Pike-Burke and his shot ricocheted off a defender and landed at the feet of Ellis Jewell who controlled well and slotted home from 6 yards out.
Lions 5 – 0 Red Lodge

The second half mainly took the same pattern as the first except the weather got worse and some torrential downpours stopped the Lions going even further ahead as Jordan Charnley, Levi Simon, Ronan Pike-Burke and Ashley Dale all saw shots blocked and go out for corners. Levi Simon & Wade Reeve put over some very good crosses, but the Lions did not capitalise on the chances – a bit of heading in training over the coming weeks I think !

Vinish Bhuva kept his discipline very well and made two very good stops midway through the half as the Lions defence sneaked forward and left a couple of gaps. Vinish had not had much to do in either half, but he was aware of the danger and alert enough to make the interception on both occasions.

On the hour mark, the Lions did manage to allow the Red Lodge midfield to pierce their back line and a neat finish eluded the dive of Vinish into the bottom corner.
Lions 5 – 1 Red Lodge

The last significant chance of the game – before the downpours really affected the run of the ball and the players ability to pick out passes - fell to Ronan Pike-Burke just inside the box and his excellent left foot effort beat the kepper, but rifled off the bar.

Final Score – Lions 5 – 1 Red Lodge

Another excellent team performance – well done boys. Lets creep up the league now and keep our high scoring / low conceding rate up over the coming weeks.
