The Under 7 do the Newmarket Tournament

It was a GREAT Bank Holiday Weekend for the U7s. On Saturday the boys took on Teversham over at their place. It was meant to be a Home match at Nightgingale Rec., but as the pitches had turned into lakes, we managed to reverse the fixture.

We had 8 boys availible to play. The two boys not there were Joe - currently living in Japan for now, and Tom – who was a bit poorly.

We went 1 – 0 down straight away, which left the boys a bit stunned, but it didn’t take them long to get back into the game. The boys managed to pull the score back to 1 – 1, and they went on from there with the boys controlling everything, all over the pitch. The game ended 9 – 1 to the Lions, With goals from Noah (3), Rio (2), Emmi (2), Jordan and Seamus. All boys gave very solid performances!!

Man of the Match, chosen by me, went to our Captain Noah, In my eyes it was his best game as a Lion so far, he banged in 3 goals, plus he was all over the pitch, winning and controlling everything. A great attitude aswell!

On Bank Holiday Monday we played at the Newmaket Town Youth Tournament. Late on Sunday night we still weren’t certain if we were going to be there, as we only just had 6 boys able to play.

No – Joe, Seamus, Richie or Josh.

Fingers crossed everyone would be ok!!!!!!!!!!!…

Monday morning came and we had 6 boys at Newmarket Town Ground ready to play, namely Rio, Noah, Jordan, Emmi, Tom and Kyle. But it did mean that every boy, had to play every minute, of every game…. No Subs!

We had 6 games to come -

First up came Newmarket Juniors 3 – 0 to the Lions. (Emmi 1 Tom 2)

Next came Newmarket Whites 1 – 0 to the Lions. (Jordan)

Next came Fulbourn Falcons 1 – 0 to the Lions. (Noah)

Next came Panthers 1 – 0 to the Lions. (Noah)

Next came Newmarket Blue 2 – 1 to the Lions. (Noah 1 Jordan 1)

Lastly came Sutton by this time the boys were getting very tired, plus it started to rain but the boys fought hard for a 0 – 0 draw to keep us unbeaten through the whole Tournament.

It meant that we come ’1st’ out of 6 teams and won our age group!!!!!! Amazing!! Well done boys!!!!!!!

Rio and Kyle didn’t get on the score sheet but Rio kept us in the games with some great goalkeeping and defending and Kyle kepted battling all the time.

Man of the Match went to ALL 6 boys, they all well deserved it after a long morning, and some incredible football, plus they showed an amazing spirit, playing as a team, helping each other and keeping each other going. Even when we weren’t playing, they were still kicking the ball about in between our games. Where do they get their energy from????????

The Under 7 squad at the Cambridge Utd. 5 a side Tournament

On Saturday the 28th April, The Lions Under 7s took part in the Cambridge United FC 5 a side Tournament. Where, after playing 5 games, came away being unbeaten all day, which was a great achievement. But they didn’t have it all their own way.

On a very cold and very wet Saturday morning, the boys had to play 5 x 12 minutes games, drawing 4 and winning 1, but they certainly made sure they didn’t lose!!! We were put into a very tough group, where the teams we played were all very good, which was great because it was a good test for us! This is how the boys got on :

Lions 1 v 1 Arsenal Soccer School

Lions 2 v 2 Spartak 78

Lions 0 v 0 Cambourne Fc

Lions 2 v 1 Letchworth GC Eagles

Lions 1 v 1 Bengeo Tigers Siberians

As we were only allowed to take 8 boys, sadly that meant that one little chap, Richie, had to miss out, There was another absentee on Saturday, Joe, but that was simply because he is currently living in Japan. So the boys involved were Rio, Josh, Noah, Tom, Jordan, Emmi, Kyle and Seamus. All boys played brilliantly, all giving solid performances and never giving up, goals came from Tom with 4 and Noah with 2. Tom also, deservedly, picking up Man of the Tournament!!!

Lions Scoop Best Win of the Season with a Quadruple Hat Trick

The under 10′s have once again shown their class with a 19 – 0 win away at Histon Hornets. Comfortably the biggest win of the season by any team in their division and league With one more league game to go, this victory has put the Lions in a strong position for the League Cup Final on the 12th May. The scoring started after just a few minutes with an excellent goal from Ethan Goebbels. From that point forward the goals just kept coming thick and fast.

Goal scorers were: Ethan Goebells – 3, Josh Daniels – 2, Jake McEvoy – 5, Adam Laker – 3, Thomas Swain – 3, Andrew Milner – 1, Maxwell Durning – 1, Byron Reed – 1.

While this is an impressive score line, the boys should be congratulated for their team work. Throughout the season we’ve seen some brilliant passing, defensive work, and some excellent individual skills, but today’s score was mainly due to controlled passing, unselfish play and good decision making. While our defence was not put under too much strain, our key defenders Ethan Baites and Benjamin Wilson ensured we came away with another clean sheet. Well done to our keeper Andrew who got to play on field and took his chance well to get a goal.

Hi everyone, today I received a text from Turkey with a little update on the tournament out there.
John’s squad reached the semi final stage, but sadly lost out on penalties.
However, in the 3rd and 4th play off match they found there form and ran out winners. So they finished in 3rd place, well done boys we are so proud of you all, and John and Amanda too.
